What is college? To me, college is an institution of learning. A place to discover your true interests, ideas, and even yourself. You not only learn academics, but who you believe you are. Being a college student is telling the world here I am and look at what I want to accomplish. It is one thing to want to learn, but to sacrifice both time and money on your education is taking the next step. College is that next step. Even though you are not securing your future by going to college, you are helping make it better. Socially, college is where you discover your true friends. In high school, if you "fit into" a social standard, those people who also did were your friends. Here, you find friends based on personality and shared interests. To me personally, college is a way to discover who I truly am. I can no longer hide behind the stereotypes from high school. So far, college is amazing. Of course there are people I miss at home, but I no longer have my parents breathing down my neck 24/7 or the unfortunate event of seeing someone from school that I do not get along with. My goals for this year are simple. Stay on top of my work, meet new people, and join clubs that I would enjoy. This, hopefully, will be obtainable. My only real concern is with managing my time, as I procrastinate often. So far, I have been able to turn work in on time, and occasionally early. I can, however, finally meet new people, as my grade in high school had around 82 students. My first college experience was walking out of my Hall the first day of classes and seeing how many unfamiliar faces there were. Coming from such a small high school, I had known everyone I saw. This experience was completely foreign to me. Foreign, but exciting. I have already met so many interesting and amazing people, and I cannot wait to meet more as my college career takes off. http://www.thomastonschools.net/subsite/ths
