What is inquiry?

Inquiry, to me, is being curious about something. For example, you inquire about the well being of a person or if a book is good or not. An inquiry would be a question asked to quench that curiosity. For example, today in class we learned each others names and talked about the differences between high school and college. That was inquiry, as we were learning and uncovering things. Two words that I found the definitions to today were genre, a category of an artistic piece, and resolution, the product of efforts in a piece of literature. They both helped me when I was doing my English homework this evening.
